## BYD Redefines Off-Road EVs

BYD's luxury off-road sub-brand Fangchengbao (方程豹, lit. "Formula Leopard") today launched the flash-charge editions of its Bao 8 and Bao 5 SUVs at a launch event in Shenzhen. The company claims these are the world's first flash-charge capable off-road vehicles.

Both models are equipped with BYD's second-generation blade battery and an 800V high-voltage flash charging platform. The Bao 8 achieves a combined range of 1,380 km (857 miles), while the Bao 5 reaches 1,310 km (814 miles).

### Cloud Chariot-P Ultra Suspension

The biggest talking point is the new Yun Nian-P Ultra (Cloud Chariot-P Ultra) suspension system, BYD's latest high-end off-road technology. It brings some genuinely impressive capabilities:

- **3-minute air jack tire change** — the vehicle can lift and change a tire automatically
- **3-wheel driving** — can continue driving at up to 15 km/h even with one wheel missing
- **All four wheels can lift independently** for obstacle clearance
- **Blowout stability system** — emergency support for sudden tire bursts

### Smart Driving

- **Bao 8**: Upgraded to ADS V4.1.5 with front and rear dual LiDAR, plus a new ultra-long-range infrared night vision system
- **Bao 5**: Equipped with God's Eye-B assisted driving with LiDAR
