Chinese research team led by Pan Jianwei and Lu Chaoyang from the University of Science and Technology of China (USTC) has successfully developed Jiuzhang 4.0 (九章四号), a programmable photonic quantum computing prototype with 1,024 quantum squeezed state inputs and 8,176 modes.

The achievement, published in the journal Nature on May 13, marks a new world record in photonic quantum information technology.
